Controlled Field Study for Testing the Efficacy of a Special Diet
as a Treatment of Patients with Lepromatous Leprosy

In 1985 Dr. Schnitzer began a two-year research study of leprosy in Sri Lanka titled 'Controlled Field Study for Testing the Efficacy of a Special Diet as a Treatment of Patients with Lepromatous Leprosy.'

This was the result: After the switch to a 100% raw plant food diet, 90% of the studied patients either improved the condition of their leprosy ulcers considerably (the ulcers became smaller and no longer oozed, i.e. they dried out), or these ulcers healed completely. Some palm-sized chronic ulcers completely healed within only 10 days after the diet switch. In the same time period, 90% of the patients of a control group who continued traditional eating habits, saw their condition deteriorate although they ate mostly vegetarian food. However, they cooked their vegetables before eating them.
