Listening to you, Leah (Leigh) and your guests, I have been moving towards a raw food lifestyle. I'm at about 60-70% right now. I definitely feel the difference in my body and mood. I've been 60-70% raw for about 6 months now.

Unfortunately, about 10 years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (I was 16). I have been doing some research on the benefits of raw food and thyroid disease, but I can't seem to find any concrete information regarding this. Do you have any good links or books where I might gain more information?

Thanks,

Elvira

March 14, 2008

Dear Elvira,

Thank you for letting me know that you enjoy our show.

I am not a practitioner of any kind so cannot advise you on hypothyroidism.

Please accept the following as an exchange of ideas and information for educational purposes ONLY.

Everyone's thyroid today has been affected by radiation leaks from our nuclear power plants and nuclear testing sites, from radiation in medical tests and procedures in hospitals, from radiation-like effects from pesticides, from nuclear bombs (yes, some of our bombs release nuclear radiation and since air currents travel, it makes no difference that we are detonating them in the Middle East), from radiation from computers and cell phones and towers, and many other sources. To find out more about this just google the phrase: thyroid and radiation.

For next week's show, I interviewed a registered nurse who went holistic. One of the first things she healed was her hypothyroidism. You might want to listen to that show.

There are many supportive things that you can do for your thyroid, not the least of which is to make sure that you are getting iodine from natural sources. Kelp is excellent. There is a form of radioactive iodine that displaces the natural iodine, and that is why it is important to support the thyroid in every way possible.

Radishes of all kinds also support thyroid function, according to folk medicine.

The cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, etc. may dampen thyroid function if they are eaten daily. These are excellent foods, however, so for people with thyroid disease, perhaps it might be good to have them on alternate weeks, sort of like the rotation diet, where the same foods are not eaten everyday. I would not eliminate them.

Certain Hatha Yoga postures stimulate the thyroid gland for better function. I would look into that.

There is a site where you can get a lot of information about malfunctioning thyroids and some natural herbal supports as well. Go to: www.wilsonssyndrome.com

Holding a good thought for your complete recovery.

With blessings and peace,

Rhio

< Date: January 11, 2008 From: Elvira To: Rhotline@aol.com Subject: Thyroid Disease and Raw food Hello Rhio, I am a huge fan of your show on Tribeca Radio.
