\tAre we living in a nation chemically drugged and dangerously at risk? With an estimated 80,000 chemicals in commercial use today, environmental researcher, Michael Wisner, says “While there is encouraging news concerning the reduction of toxic lead in human bodies levels are still a concern, and, we manufacture and bring to the market so many chemicals and drugs in the United States, not all toxic, the sheer volume combined with gaping holes in our current regulatory system, it does not take a rocket scientist to understand how chemicals and drugs like Vioxx, Celebrex and pesticides get thrown into broad use, only to find unknown health risks. One of the oldest principals in medicine is the “dose\/risk” relationship, increase the dose, we increase the risk. The recent report by CDC asterisks this situation with literally all Americans toting around in their bodies upwards of 100 known, toxic, cancer causing or birth defect causing substances. Americans want to know how this happened, what it means and most importantly, what they can do about it.”<\/p>\n
\tIn the largest study of chemical exposure ever conducted on human beings, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported recently that the MAJORITY of American children and adults were carrying in their bodies dozens of pesticides and toxic compounds used in consumer products, many of them linked to potential health threats.<\/p>\n
\tThe report further documented bigger doses of many chemicals in children than in adults. This includes some pyrethroids, which are in virtually every household pesticide, and phthalates, which are found in nail polish and other beauty products as well as in soft plastics.<\/p>\n
\tEven more alarming, a study commissioned by the Environmental Working Group uncovered an average of 200 different chemicals in individual umbilical cord blood samples, including a wide variety of pesticides, fire retardants, and industrial coatings used in electrical insulation, carpets, furniture, and other products thereby proving that exposure to hundreds of toxic chemicals begins in the womb. And in the CDC study, one of every 18 women of childbearing age, or 5.7%, had mercury that exceeded the level that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency deemed safe to a developing fetus.<\/p>\n
\tWhat does this mean for a population exceeding over 295,734,134?<\/p>\n
\t“Every day, we are unknowingly exposed to a variety of pesticides in our food, drinking water, homes, schools and offices,” Mr. Wisner says, “not to mention the millions using street, prescription, and psychoactive drugs such as Prozac, Lexapro and Xanax. College students are trading in coke and speed for Ritalin and Adderall. If we think we are chemical free, think again.”<\/p>\n
\tMany drugs & environmental toxins can contribute to such syndromes as fatigue, feelings of woodiness and lifelessness, reduction in memory, reduced mental clarity, lowered IQ and lowered immunity to disease. These are subtle symptoms and so may go undetected. Research indicates that this buildup may contribute to a whole host of more serious diseases including cancer, infertility, birth defects, irreversible sexual side effects, susceptibility to suicide and neurological disease.<\/p>\n
\tWhat is the solution? Mr. Wisner recommends a detox program detailed in the New York Times best-seller Clear Body Clear Mind written by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. “It’s disconcerting but fact – toxins and chemicals get lodged in the fatty tissues of the body and can effect you even months and years later. Many fireman, rescue workers and EMT’s in New York underwent this detoxification program with a great deal of success after being exposed to the dangerous chemicals in the aftermath of 9\/11.”<\/p>\n
\tEach year, Americans use over 4.5 billion pounds of pesticides, including about one billion pounds of "conventional" pesticides used in agriculture, industry, home and garden.<\/p>\n
