In response to an inspiring quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that I sent out to my elist on his recent birthday:
In a message dated 1/22/02 9:56:23 AM, Maynard writes:
There is a rumor, which I cannot confirm, that both his widow and at least one of his daughters and one of his grandsons is now vegan.
Documenting that would go a long way towards helping many African Americans feel that being vegetarian is OK. There are many thousands of African American Vegetarians in North America, many who have been vegetarian all their lives, and whose parents were longtime or lifelong vegetarians — and not all of them were brought up as SDA's.
But the TRAGEDY here is that so many "Martin Luther King breakfasts" are "breakfasts of cruelty" — filled with products of much oppression, pain, and horror (sausage, bacon, eggs, etc.).

Maynard,
Thank you for the information. I will check out the site.
I know that Coretta Scott King wrote the forward for Brian Clement's book, Living Foods for Optimum Health, and I also heard that she has been a guest at The Hippocrates Health Spa in Florida, so there might be some truth to those rumors. I'll try to find out more.
Blessings and Peace,
Rhio
